Professional standards

During 2023, a new Professional Standards Steering Group has been recruited to support the assurance and approval of standards. The group includes members with legal, accounting, regulatory and consumer advocacy experience.

The SRB and the Professional Standards Team supported and approved all new and amended professional standards introduced this year. Important projects protecting the public interest include:

• changes to the RICS Valuation – Global Standards: UK national supplement, which is introducing important new rotation requirements for valuers and firms undertaking specified regulated purpose valuations to protect the public interest in objective
• the Whole life carbon assessment for the built environment professional standard, which supports consistent measurement of carbon to empower governments and investors making decisions, which will support sustainable development.

We also worked closely with RICS members and our diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) colleagues to publish advice to support members and firms in complying with the Rules of Conduct by encouraging an inclusive culture.
